The Edo State Police Command has launched an investigation into an alleged attack on African Democratic Congress (ADC) officials during a political gathering in Benin City.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The probe follows claims by Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, that Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, and some ADC leaders were targeted on Tuesday at the residence of former Edo State governor, John Odigie-Oyegun.

In a statement on Wednesday, police spokesperson Eno Ikodem said suspected hoodlums stormed the event around 2:55 p.m., after most guests had left, causing chaos, chasing attendees away, and overturning furniture.

Patrol teams responded to distress calls, but the suspects had fled before officers arrived. Plastic chairs and canopies set up for the event were damaged, and one woman sustained minor injuries during the stampede. She received treatment at a nearby chemist and has been discharged.

Ikodem added that police also investigated reports of gunshots near Odigie-Oyegun’s residence, finding signs of property damage, including broken vehicle windows, though no casualties were recorded.

Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has ordered a “full-scale” investigation to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible. The command assured that political figures will be protected regardless of party affiliation and emphasized that political violence will not be tolerated.

Police have invited state political party leaders to meet with the commissioner to discuss strategies for peaceful political activities, and residents were urged to remain calm and provide credible information to aid the investigation.

Man United Suffer Embarrassing Defeat To Bournemouth As Liverpool, Newcastle Turn On The Style.

AFC Bournemouth intensified Manchester United’s woes with a convincing 3-0 victory at Old Trafford on Sunday, October 25, 2026, while Liverpool and Newcastle United secured wins in their respective Premier League fixtures.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The defeat marked United’s third loss in four home matches and extended their winless streak across all competitions to eight games, piling further pressure on manager Michael Carrick.

Carrick opted to leave captain Bruno Fernandes on the bench following United’s midweek defeat to Como, hoping the change would spark a response from his team. However, the decision failed to yield the desired result as Bournemouth controlled much of the encounter.

Rayan gave the visitors the lead with a volley from Justin Kluivert’s free-kick, while Bournemouth goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic denied Bryan Mbeumo an opportunity to restore parity.

Bournemouth extended their advantage after a mistake by Leny Yoro allowed Adrien Truffert to set up Marcus Tavernier, who calmly converted the chance.

Carrick introduced Matheus Cunha at half-time in an attempt to turn the game around, but United struggled to create meaningful opportunities.

Evanilson completed the emphatic victory after capitalising on confusion in United’s defence. He rounded goalkeeper Senne Lammens before finishing from a tight angle to make it 3-0.

The victory marked Bournemouth’s fourth consecutive win in all competitions and extended their unbeaten run against Manchester United to seven meetings.

Meanwhile, Liverpool recorded their first Premier League home victory since April after defeating Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 at Anfield.

Florian Wirtz opened the scoring with an effort that took a deflection off Pascal Gross before Alexander Isak doubled Liverpool’s lead by converting a pass from Bradley Barcola.

Brighton, who had recorded five consecutive clean sheets across all competitions before the encounter, struggled to break through Liverpool’s defence in the second half.

The defeat was Brighton’s first Premier League match this season in which they failed to score, while Liverpool registered their sixth victory in seven matches.

Newcastle United also returned to winning ways with a 2-0 away victory over Crystal Palace, a result that lifted them to seventh place in the league standings.

William Osula broke the deadlock shortly after half-time, turning Jacob Murphy’s cross into the net before Harvey Barnes added the second with a first-time finish from a pass by Amar Dedic.

Joe Willock appeared to have extended Newcastle’s lead, but his goal was disallowed following a VAR review for offside.

Crystal Palace were unable to find a response and suffered their fifth league defeat of the season, leaving them just one point and one place above the relegation zone.

Newcastle, meanwhile, ended a disappointing run of three defeats in four Premier League matches.

Elsewhere, Hull City and Brentford shared the points after playing out a 1-1 draw at the MKM Stadium.

Oli McBurnie put Hull ahead from the penalty spot after a misplaced pass by Aaron Hickey allowed Tim Iroegbunam to win a penalty.

Brentford restored parity shortly after the hour mark when Dango Ouattara scored from close range following a miskick by Igor Thiago.

Both teams created additional scoring opportunities but failed to find a winner before the final whistle.

The draw extended Hull’s unbeaten home run in the league this season, while Brentford recorded their fifth stalemate in seven Premier League matches.

Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, has alleged that some individuals are working behind the scenes to frustrate his ambition to become the next governor of Gombe State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Pantami vowed to publicly reveal the identities and details of those allegedly involved in the plot, saying investigations had enabled him to identify those working against his political movement.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate made the disclosure in a video shared on his Facebook page, according to reports.

“Our investigations have now confirmed that these allegations are true. There is no amount of money or effort that has not been expended in an attempt to scuttle this movement,” he said.

The former minister’s allegation comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) excluded his name from the final list of governorship candidates for the 2027 election.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his candidacy, Pantami urged his supporters to remain committed to prayers and not allow criticism or recent developments to discourage them.

He also expressed appreciation to residents who had organised prayers in support of his governorship ambition, describing their efforts as encouraging and commendable.

Pantami praised his supporters for mobilising people, canvassing support and educating residents about his political movement.

“You canvassed support, mobilised people, enlightened them and remained steadfast throughout this period. This is commendable, and this is a sign of true piety.

“Do not relent. Do not be angry or discouraged, because you are the ones who will be elevated, provided you remain steadfast in your belief in Allah,” he said.

Despite INEC’s decision and the deadline for appeals, Pantami maintained that his exclusion from the candidates’ list was only a temporary setback.

Heat Wave Alert: Nonye Soludo Sends Strong Warning To Nigerians As Temperatures Rise.

Anambra State First Lady, Dr Nonye Soludo, has urged Nigerians to take necessary precautions against extreme heat following projections that the country could record an additional 31,400 heat-related deaths between September 2026 and February 2027.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Soludo, who founded the non-governmental organisation Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, issued the warning in a statement on Sunday, advising Nigerians to limit prolonged exposure to high temperatures and take steps to protect their health.

She encouraged residents to drink sufficient water, avoid staying under direct sunlight for extended periods, wear lightweight clothing and ensure their homes are properly ventilated to minimise the risk of heat-related illnesses.

The Anambra First Lady also called on families and relevant authorities to pay particular attention to elderly people, infants and individuals living with hypertension, diabetes or kidney disease, noting that they are more vulnerable to the effects of extreme heat.

Her warning follows a report by the Climate Impact Lab titled “451,000 at Risk: Where Action Can Save Lives During the Super El Niño,” published on September 22, 2026.

The report projects that the world could record 451,000 additional heat-related deaths between June 2026 and February 2027 compared with a normal year.

It further estimates that nearly 66,800 additional deaths could occur across the Sahel region between September 2026 and February 2027, with Nigeria expected to account for almost half of the projected figure.

Reacting to the findings, Soludo urged Nigerians to check on their relatives and loved ones regularly, particularly elderly family members and others who may find it difficult to cope with rising temperatures.

“As we head deep into a period of increased heat, I encourage every family to take simple but important precautions to protect their health,” she said.

She also advised residents to seek urgent medical assistance if anyone displayed symptoms of severe heat-related illness.

“Also, check on your loved ones, especially in the mornings and evenings. If anyone shows signs of severe heat illness, move them to a cool place, begin cooling their body, and seek emergency medical attention immediately,” she added.

Soludo reminded residents that Anambra State’s emergency telephone number remains 112, urging them to take the dangers associated with extreme heat seriously.

“Remember that a little caution today can save a life tomorrow,” she said.
