In a statement, she described the incident as deeply troubling and warned that escalating political hostility could pose a threat to Nigeria’s democratic stability.

She expressed concern over the rising political tensions and the safety of political actors across all parties.

“This development is alarming and has no place in our democracy. Politics must never degenerate into violence, intimidation, or threats against perceived opponents,” she added.

The senator cautioned against overzealous political actors who, in a bid to impress leaders, harass or attack opposition members.

“I am particularly concerned about overzealous political actors who, in trying to demonstrate loyalty to Mr. President or any leader, take it upon themselves to intimidate or assault members of the opposition. Such behaviour is reckless, counterproductive, and harmful to national unity,” she noted.

Akpoti-Uduaghan stressed that democracy depends on healthy competition and the protection of dissenting voices.

“Democracy thrives on free expression, fair competition, and safeguarding dissenting voices. The opposition has every constitutional right to organise, mobilise, and conduct political activities without fear. Any attempt to threaten or silence them undermines the foundation of our democratic system,” she said.

She concluded by calling on security agencies to thoroughly investigate the attack and hold the perpetrators accountable.

“Nigeria must remain a country where political disagreements are resolved through dialogue and the ballot, not violence. As a Senator, I remain committed to defending democratic principles, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring the safety of all Nigerians, irrespective of political affiliation.”

Describing politics as a reciprocal process, Wike stressed that the era of empty promises was over:

“Leaders must demonstrate their commitment to delivering good governance. You cannot make promises during elections and vanish afterward without fulfilling them. We asked you to support Tinubu, starting with the area council elections. On February 21, you came through, delivering 133 of the 135 polling units in the council for Tinubu. What more can we say but thank you? You have done your part; we will now do ours. Abaji people have spoken, and they spoke decisively,” he said.
