Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozekhome, is reportedly being held by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and could be facing new charges, according to a senior intelligence source.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The source disclosed on Tuesday that Ozekhome is currently in EFCC custody and may soon be arraigned on fresh allegations.

This development comes just hours after the Federal Capital Territory High Court, sitting in Maitama, struck out an earlier three-count forgery charge filed against him.

The case had been instituted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over allegations that Ozekhome forged documents linked to a disputed property in London, United Kingdom.

The charge, marked FCT/HC/CR/010/26, was signed on January 16, 2026, by ICPC officials on behalf of the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN.

However, when the matter came up for arraignment, counsel representing the AGF, Rotimi Oyedepo, applied to withdraw the charge. He informed the court that the AGF’s office required additional time to review and harmonise issues involving multiple investigating agencies in order to strengthen the case.

Following the application, Justice Peter Kekemeke struck out the suit.

Before the withdrawal, Ozekhome had been facing three counts relating to alleged receipt of property abroad, forgery, and fraudulent use of false documents.

One of the charges claimed that in August 2021, while in London, he received a property located at 79 Randall Avenue, NW2 7SX, allegedly from a certain Mr Shani Tali, an act prosecutors described as a felony under the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

Another count accused him of forging a Nigerian passport in the name of Shani Tali to support ownership claims over the property, contrary to provisions of the Penal Code applicable in the FCT.

The third charge alleged that he knowingly used the falsified passport as genuine to back his claim of ownership.

At a previous hearing, Oyedepo had assured the court that the prosecution would pursue the matter with utmost diligence and strict adherence to due process.

The arraignment followed a September 2025 ruling by the UK First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber), which determined that the disputed property belonged to the estate of the late Jeremiah Useni, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

In the UK proceedings, filed under reference REF/2023/0155, the tribunal dismissed claims made by Ozekhome and individuals identified as “Mr” and “Ms” Tali Shani.

In his judgment, Judge Ewan Paton stated that numerous documents presented in the matter were either forged or obtained through deception, including false identity papers, fabricated witness statements, forged medical letters, and fake burial notices. The tribunal concluded that the real owner of the property, under an assumed name, was General Jeremiah Useni.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
