FCT Elections Show There Will Be A Lot Of Litigations In 2027 – Abati.
Veteran journalist and former presidential media aide, Reuben Abati, has predicted that Nigeria’s 2027 elections are likely to trigger a surge of court cases.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Abati made the remarks on Monday while speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, reviewing the outcome of the 2026 local council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He urged political parties to rethink their strategies ahead of 2027, noting that it may be unrealistic to expect the recently amended Electoral Act, signed into law by President Bola Tinubu, to significantly curb rigging or the influence of money in elections.
Abati said, “It appears that in Abuja, the vote has already been won and lost. In Kano, the APC secured victories in two by-elections, suggesting that Governor Abba Yusuf has shown he can deliver for the party in the state.
“But overall, we are likely to see a lot of litigation in 2027. The PDP is already celebrating, claiming evidence of a resurgence, and asserting wins not only in Gwagwalada but also in Kuje and two other local councils. Amos Paul, the PDP candidate for the Abuja Municipal Council, has already indicated he plans to take the matter to court.
“So, litigation seems inevitable. Anyone hoping that the 2026 elections would reduce rigging or the influence of money may be disappointed.
“We can only hope that all stakeholders, including the ADC, which performed visibly in Abuja yet secured no wins, will learn from this experience and that all parties will restrategize. What this will mean for the future remains to be seen.”
