The Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), Niger State chapter, has expressed strong support for the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in opposing the proposed Hisbah Bill currently before the Niger State House of Assembly.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement signed by its State Chairman, Rev. Daniel Tsado, the council described the bill as controversial and urged Governor Mohammed Umar Bago to reject any policy that could undermine the state’s long history of peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims.

Rev. Tsado, also the Vicar of Gbaiko Anglican Church in Bosso Local Government Area, noted that Niger State has enjoyed decades of religious harmony, warning that the introduction of the Hisbah Bill could create unnecessary tension and division among residents.

“We join other concerned Nigerlites in appealing to Governor Mohammed Umar Bago not to allow religious extremism to disrupt the peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims,” the statement read.

The CCN expressed full backing for CAN’s stance against the legislation, stressing that the bill could negatively impact business freedom and exacerbate the economic challenges currently facing the state.

The council added that churches in the state did not expect such a proposal under Governor Bago’s administration, which has previously demonstrated unity by engaging with churches across Niger State.

“Mr. Governor, we urge you to stay on the path of unity and peaceful coexistence,” the council appealed.

The Christian body also questioned the timing of the bill, pointing out that it comes at a period of strong interfaith relations.

“As a bloc, we are concerned about why such a bill is being introduced when there is robust harmony between the two major religions. We must avoid anything that could sow discord among us,” the statement concluded.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
