‘93% Of Results Have Been Uploaded To IREV’ – INEC Gives Report On FCT Council Election.

In a statement released on Sunday and signed by INEC’s Acting Director of Voter Education and Publicity (VEP), Wilfred Ifogah, the commission said results for all councils were announced on Saturday, except for Kuje Area Council, which was declared at 3:30 pm on Sunday, 22nd February 2026.
INEC expressed gratitude to FCT residents for their peaceful conduct and cooperation throughout the polls. As of 2:00 pm on Sunday, the commission reported that 93% of polling unit results had been uploaded to the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) Portal, which remains accessible to the public.
The commission also addressed claims that some voters were moved to different polling units, clarifying that no voters were migrated. Large polling units with over 1,250 registered voters were split into nearby locations to reduce congestion. Voters were informed of the changes via text messages and emails before the election.
According to INEC, 45% of polling units opened by 8:30 am, and all units were confirmed operational by 10:00 am. The commission noted challenges some voters faced in locating their designated split units but emphasized that this was part of the effort to ensure smoother voting.
While noting concerns about voter apathy, INEC highlighted that turnout improved compared to the 2022 Area Council elections. Over 239,210 voters participated in 2026—approximately 15% of the 1,680,315 registered voters—up from 148,685 voters (9.4%) in 2022.
The delay in Kuje Area Council results was attributed to the difficult terrain of Kabi ward, which slowed final collation.
INEC concluded by appreciating FCT residents for their active participation and cooperation, saying the engagement reflects citizens’ continued trust in the electoral system and democracy.
