Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed this on Thursday while briefing Defence Correspondents on the Armed Forces’ activities between February 13 and 19, 2026.
According to Gen. Onoja, the suspect, identified as Aisha Auta, was among 20 individuals apprehended across various theatres of operation during the period under review.
Auta was arrested on February 19, 2026, by troops of Operation Whirl Stroke in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State. She is the spouse of a notorious terrorist kingpin currently on the wanted list, and her capture is expected to yield crucial intelligence on terrorist networks and financing.
“In a notable encounter on February 19, following reports of terrorist activities in Kumeh village, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, troops of Sector 1 Operation Whirl Stroke deployed at Abaji/Katsina-Ala engaged the terrorists,” Onoja said.
“During the clash, several terrorists were neutralised while others fled with gunshot injuries. Troops subsequently cleared the area and recovered caches of arms and ammunition of various calibres. The operation led to the arrest of 11 terrorists, including Aisha Auta, whose capture is expected to provide valuable intelligence on terrorist networks and financing.”
The Defence spokesperson added that the week-long coordinated operations across multiple regions resulted in the arrest of a total of 20 suspects. Several firearms and ammunition were also recovered, while some fleeing suspects sustained gunshot injuries.
Military authorities believe the arrests have dealt a major blow to terrorist networks operating in parts of the country.
In addition to these arrests, Onoja revealed that troops successfully rescued 39 kidnapped victims during separate operations carried out in the same period, reaffirming the Armed Forces’ commitment to combating terrorism and criminality nationwide.
Providing further updates, Gen. Onoja said that on February 16, 2026, soldiers on routine patrol along the Maiduguri–Magumeri road intercepted five suspects found in possession of ₦37 million.
The suspects claimed the funds were intended for distribution to vulnerable communities on behalf of the international NGO, Action Against Hunger. The individuals and the cash remain in custody pending verification.
“The suspects and the funds are currently in custody as investigations continue to confirm the legitimacy of the transaction and rule out possible links to terror financing or diversion of aid,” he stated.
The Defence Headquarters assured Nigerians that the Armed Forces would continue intelligence-driven operations to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace across affected areas.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.
The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.
He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
