2027 Election: INEC To Release Revised Timetable.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is preparing to issue an updated timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This was disclosed by the Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, Adedayo Oketola. Although he did not specify when the revised timetable would be released, Oketola assured that the commission’s actions would strictly comply with the nation’s laws.

He made the clarification while responding to calls from political parties and other stakeholders urging the electoral body to publish a fresh timetable.

INEC had earlier unveiled the schedule for the 2027 polls, announcing on February 13, 2026, that the Presidential and National Assembly elections would take place on February 20, 2027, while Governorship and State Assembly elections were fixed for March 6, 2027. The announcement was made by the commission’s chairman, Prof. Amupitan, during a press briefing in Abuja.

However, several stakeholders have demanded a review of the dates, arguing that they coincide with the holy month of Ramadan and could hinder voter participation and inclusivity.

Amid the debate, the National Assembly recently passed the Electoral Act 2026, reducing the statutory notice period for elections from 360 days to 300 days.

The amended Clause 28 stipulates that INEC must, no later than 300 days before an election, publish a notice in each state and the Federal Capital Territory specifying the election date and the location for submission of nomination papers.

The legislation has since been signed into law by Bola Tinubu.

The amendment is expected to provide INEC with greater flexibility in fixing dates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections, potentially allowing them to be conducted between late December 2026 and January 2027.

The Super Eagles will face the defending champions at The Valley, home of Charlton Athletic, on Tuesday, 26 May, with the winner set to meet either Jamaica or India in the final.

Speaking to the Zimbabwe Football Association website, Tembo acknowledged Nigeria’s strong football pedigree but insisted his side will approach the game with confidence rather than fear.

He noted that while Nigeria boasts quality players, Zimbabwe also believes in its own squad and ability to compete.

According to him, proper preparation, discipline, and tactical organisation will be key to their performance, stressing the importance of players fully understanding their roles on the pitch.

Tembo described the encounter as a valuable opportunity for Zimbabwe to compete against top-level opposition and demonstrate their strength as the team continues its rebuilding process under interim management.

He added that matches of this calibre are important for the team’s growth and future ambitions.

“We are approaching it with seriousness and ambition. Playing against strong opposition like Nigeria, as well as Jamaica and India, provides a good test for the team,” he said.

“These are the kind of high-quality matches that help players develop and give us a clearer idea of where we stand.”
