Papaya Ex shared her version of events during an emotional TikTok live session on Friday, claiming the incident occurred while she was returning home from a movie shoot. She alleged that what began as a routine interaction with officers escalated into a confrontation, during which an officer struck her in the face with a gun, assaulted her driver, touched her inappropriately, and forcibly took her phone.

However, Hundeyin, in a statement on , explained that the encounter happened just before 2 a.m., when officers on night patrol stopped a vehicle carrying three men and two women for a routine search. According to him, Papaya Ex refused the search, reportedly saying, “You cannot search my car. Don’t you know Papaya? Even your bosses know me.”

Hundeyin stated that she chose to proceed to a police station instead, after which an officer entered her vehicle following initial refusal. As her vehicle moved ahead with the patrol following behind, Papaya Ex allegedly instructed her driver to speed off, leaving the patrol van behind and prompting officers to coordinate with a team further along to intercept the car.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, provided additional details, noting that a white Mercedes-Benz SUV carrying five occupants was stopped during a routine operation. The passengers could not provide valid identification, with Papaya Ex repeatedly claiming, “I am Papaya X, even your bosses know me,” without presenting verifiable credentials.

Officers then requested that the group proceed to Ajah Police Station for proper documentation, with an ASP accompanying them in the SUV while other officers followed. The driver reportedly sped off in an attempt to evade police, but the vehicle was intercepted at a second checkpoint near Addo Roundabout by personnel from Langbasa Police Division.

SP Adebisi confirmed that the viral video circulating online was recorded after the SUV had been stopped at the second checkpoint. He stated that the incident is under investigation, and further updates will be provided as necessary.
