Police Confirm Arrest Of Tiktoker Mirabel Over False Rape Claim.

DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command’s spokesperson, told Peoples Gazette on Friday that the social media personality is now in police custody, adding that the investigation is ongoing and further actions will depend on its outcome.

“We have her. Investigations will determine the next steps,” he said.

The controversy began when Mirabel, who uses the TikTok handle @mirab351, posted videos claiming she was sexually assaulted in her Ogijo, Ogun State apartment. She alleged that the man restrained her and boasted that his family connections would protect him from facing justice.

Her posts quickly went viral under hashtags like #StopRapingWomen, sparking nationwide calls for justice and immediate police intervention.

Initially, the police stated that Mirabel was not under arrest but was being treated as a complainant after reporting the alleged assault. The Commissioner of Police directed officers at the Ibafo Division to engage with her once the matter gained public attention.

Mirabel later visited the police station, gave an initial statement, and underwent a medical examination. The case was subsequently transferred to the Ogijo Police Station. Authorities also provided her with medical care due to her emotional and physical condition during the investigation.

Throughout the process, the police emphasized adherence to due process, reiterating that anyone found guilty of sexual assault would face prosecution while reminding the public that giving false information to law enforcement is a criminal offense under Nigerian law.

The case took a dramatic turn when Mirabel retracted her claims, admitting in a viral audio that parts of her story were false and issuing an apology to the public.
