FG Sends Nigerian To US Over Alleged Sextortion-Related Death.
The Federal Government has extradited 26-year-old Nigerian Afeez Olatunji Adewale to the United States to face charges linked to sexual extortion and the death of a young man in Pennsylvania.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Adewale, the third Nigerian extradited in connection with this case, is accused of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Lynne A. Sitarski at a federal court in Philadelphia following his extradition.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Adewale was arrested in Nigeria on August 17, 2023, during a joint operation with the FBI targeting sexual extortionists preying on minors in the United States. He was extradited on Friday, February 13, 2026, with assistance from the Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs, the FBI Legal Attaché in Abuja, and the FBI, which took him into custody upon arrival.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI’s Philadelphia Fort Washington Resident Agency in collaboration with the Abington Township Police Department, and the case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Brown.
U.S. Attorney David Metcalf commended Nigerian authorities for their support.
“The assistance of Nigerian security authorities was crucial, particularly that of Nigeria’s Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Federal Ministry of Justice’s International Criminal Justice Cooperation Department, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,” Metcalf said.
Adewale’s co-defendants, 27-year-old Imoleayo Samuel Aina (aka Alice Dave) and 26-year-old Samuel Olasunkanmi Abiodun, were extradited to the U.S. in August 2024. Abiodun pleaded guilty to money laundering conspiracy and wire fraud and was sentenced in June 2025 by U.S. District Judge Joel H. Slomsky to five years in prison.
Aina later pleaded guilty to cyberstalking, interstate threats, receiving extortion proceeds, money laundering conspiracy, and wire fraud, receiving a six-year prison sentence in October 2025.
Nigeria has stepped up cooperation with international authorities to combat cybercrime, particularly sextortion cases. In 2023, Samuel and Samson Ogoshi were extradited to the U.S. for allegedly sexually extorting multiple young men and teenage boys, a scheme linked to the death of a 17-year-old victim.
Similarly, Olamide Shanu was extradited from the United Kingdom to the U.S. in 2025 over his alleged role in a sextortion ring that reportedly obtained at least $2 million from victims. Shanu and his accomplices allegedly posed as women on social media to lure men into sending explicit images and then threatened to release the content unless paid.
Meanwhile, Nigerian authorities, in collaboration with 15 other African countries, recently announced the arrest of 651 suspected cybercriminals and the seizure of $45 million in assets as part of a coordinated crackdown on digital crimes.
