News reports that Beautiful Nubia claims Ayefele’s 2012 track “My Faith in God (Igbagbo Ireti)” and BBO’s 2026 release “Amin” incorporated significant elements from his 1997 original.
He raised the allegation on social media, questioning the respect for copyright among Nigerian gospel musicians.
“There was Yinka Ayefele with ‘My Faith in God (Igbagbo Ireti)’ in 2012, and now someone called BBO with ‘Amin’ this year. Both stole their melodies from our original song ‘Seven Lifes’. When will Nigerians—especially so-called gospel musicians—learn to respect copyright?” he wrote.
So far, neither Ayefele nor BBO has publicly responded to the claims.
Beautiful Nubia has been a prominent figure in Nigerian music since the late 1990s. He released his first album in 1997 and is widely recognized for his contributions to folk and traditional music. He is also the founder of the annual EniObanke Music Festival, which celebrates folk and roots music.
In a related development, a Federal High Court in Lagos State granted an interim Mareva injunction freezing copyright levy funds payable to the Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria (MCSN). The court also barred the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and 20 commercial banks from disbursing or releasing the funds pending further proceedings.
News reported that the banks affected include Access Bank Plc, Citi Bank Nigeria Limited, Fidelity Bank Nigeria Plc, First Bank of Nigeria Plc, First City Monument Bank Plc, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, Heritage Bank Plc, Keystone Bank Limited, Skye Bank Plc, Stanbic IBTC Bank Nigeria Limited, Standard Chartered Bank, Sterling Bank Plc, Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, United Bank for Africa Plc, Unity Bank Plc, Wema Bank Plc, Zenith Bank Plc, Ecobank Nigeria Limited, SunTrust Bank Nigeria Limited, and Enterprise Bank Limited.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.
The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.
He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
