Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Ifeanyichukwu noted that many residents and political actors in Imo State view the president’s electoral reform efforts as aimed at improving governance and restoring public confidence in the voting process.
“We want the President to know that the people of Imo are fully behind him,” he said. “The discussion around the Electoral Act should go beyond politics. What matters is building a stronger, more credible democratic system.”
His remarks come amid nationwide debates over the proposed changes, with supporters arguing that reforms are needed to address gaps revealed in past elections, while critics have raised concerns about transparency and potential political influence.
Ifeanyichukwu also highlighted the role of young influencers in political discourse, referencing nightlife entrepreneur and social commentator Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as ChiefPriest. “Voices like ChiefPriest’s show that Nigerians, especially young people, are becoming more engaged in policies shaping the country’s future,” he said. “Constructive dialogue should be encouraged rather than division.”
He called on lawmakers in the National Assembly to ensure that any amendments prioritize inclusiveness, fairness, and national stability.
“The President’s goal is to improve Nigeria’s electoral system, and he is on the right track. Recent protests demanding approval of electronic transmission of results have been addressed, showing that President Tinubu listens and acts in the best interest of Nigerians,” Ifeanyichukwu added.
He further praised Governor Hope Uzodinma’s appointment as an Ambassador of the Renewed Hope Agenda. “A round peg in a round hole. Governor Uzodinma has excelled both in Imo State and as a key national political stakeholder. His appointment reflects the President’s confidence in his capacity and skills,” he said.
