Ex Presidential Aide Obono-Obla Arrested, Detained In Calabar.

The Cross River State Police Command has apprehended former presidential aide and legal practitioner, Okoi Obono-Obla, over allegations of forgery and allegedly securing admission into the legal profession through false representations.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The arrest was carried out on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at about noon at Abuja Park in Ugep, located in Yakurr Local Government Area of the state.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday, stated that the action followed a petition submitted to the Commissioner of Police. The petition reportedly accused Obono-Obla of forgery and obtaining professional qualifications and entry into the legal field under false pretences.

Police authorities maintained that the arrest was conducted in line with due process and within the statutory powers of the Nigeria Police Force to investigate criminal allegations.

Following his arrest, Obono-Obla was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Calabar, where investigations are ongoing.

The command also refuted reports circulating on social media alleging that the former aide had been kidnapped in Ugep. It clarified that he was not abducted and that no unidentified gunmen were involved in the incident.

According to the police, claims suggesting kidnapping or the involvement of unknown security operatives are false. They further disclosed that his legal representative has been notified and is handling the matter, while his family members are aware of his whereabouts.

The police urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing panic or disrupting peace in the state, adding that further updates would be provided as investigations progress.

The exam, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), will run from April 16 to April 22 in multiple daily sessions.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, urged examination officials to remain highly committed and professional, noting that the success of the exercise depends largely on their dedication.

He gave the charge during a virtual final briefing for technical officers ahead of the examination, where he also praised staff, ad hoc personnel, service providers, and technical advisers for their roles in the successful conduct of the mock exam.

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.

Reiterating JAMB’s zero-tolerance stance on malpractice, he warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.

He also disclosed that biometric verification and real-time monitoring systems have been deployed to protect the integrity of the exercise.

Candidates whose biometrics cannot be verified, he added, will be rescheduled to write the exam at approved centres.

Meanwhile, a NAN correspondent monitoring proceedings at Aduvie International School, Jahi, reported that the first session scheduled for 8:30 a.m. began slightly behind schedule at about 8:40 a.m.
