Benue APC Turmoil Intensifies With Rival Factions Electing Separate Ward Leaders.

The leadership tussle between Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, and his political mentor, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, intensified on Wednesday following the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congresses held across the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The dispute, which began soon after Alia’s inauguration in 2023, has split the party into two opposing factions. After the ward congresses, both sides announced parallel ward executives, further deepening the divide within the state chapter.

The Austin Agada-led faction, loyal to Akume, maintained that the congresses reaffirmed the existing ward executives for another term. On Thursday, Daniel Ihomun, the state Publicity Secretary for the Agada-led faction, congratulated the affirmed executives, noting that they had been approved to serve for four more years.

“We heartily congratulate all ward executives affirmed by their respective congresses to continue in office for another four-year term. This reaffirmation reflects the confidence party members have in you. We urge you to justify this trust through transparency, inclusiveness, dedication, and commitment to strengthening the party at the grassroots. The mandate given to you is a call to service, not a platform for personal gain,” Ihomun said.

He also praised Akume for his leadership and fatherly role in stabilizing the party. “With the success recorded at the ward congresses, the Benue State APC is more united, focused, and determined than ever to consolidate its strength and mobilize effectively towards delivering victory for Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027,” he added.

However, loyalists of Governor Alia rejected the claim of reaffirmation, insisting that new executives were elected by consensus during the congresses. James Ornguga, the state Publicity Secretary of the governor-aligned caretaker committee, said the previous executives’ tenures had expired.

“What happened during our ward congresses was consensus-based; there were no instructions to reinstate former executives. Their tenures have ended. Ward executives’ tenure expired in July 2025; local government executives’ tenure ended in September 2025; and state executives’ tenure concluded on February 8 this year. The lifespan of the entire executive structure has officially ended,” Ornguga explained.

Both factions emphasized that their actions followed directives from the party’s national secretariat.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
