He made the remarks while responding to a video showing the Igwe of Ezema Olo, Lawrence Agubuzo, appealing directly to the President in Abuja to “hear our cry” concerning Kanu’s detention.

Sharing the video on Instagram, Chief Priest praised the monarch’s initiative, writing:

“The message is very clear. God bless Your Royal Highness for taking part in Nigeria’s future. If His Highness had not gone to Abuja, how else would Asiwaju have received this message?”

He emphasized the value of political alignment, urging the South-East to support President Tinubu as a means to achieve favourable outcomes for the region.

“We cannot fight the government,” he said. “If Asiwaju frees MNK, the Igwe has already paved the way. Let’s work with Nigeria. Tinubu won the last election without the South-East.”

“He will win again, so why not give him our votes to ensure he responds to our requests? Hopefully, he will eventually hand over power to an Igbo man.”

Highlighting Tinubu’s political strength, Chief Priest added: “He has the most effective political structure in the country to win elections. The South-East’s best option is to align with Asiwaju. Let’s think strategically and not waste our votes.”

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.
