Ogun ADC Suspends Jimi Lawal, Names Caretaker Committee To Run Party.
The Ogun State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suspended Jimi Adebola Lawal over alleged anti-party activities and announced a caretaker committee to manage party affairs ahead of a forthcoming state congress.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
State Chairman Femi Soluade, in a statement on Saturday in Abeokuta, described the move as part of efforts to restore stability and cohesion within the party.
Soluade said Lawal, a former aide to ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, was suspended for actions deemed contrary to ADC’s internal democratic principles.
“We have suspended Mr. Jimi Adebola Lawal and declared him a non-member of the party due to activities inconsistent with the party’s internal democratic framework,” he stated.
The chairman alleged that Lawal sought to dominate party structures through the “systematic acquisition” of two local government units and by dismantling existing state and local leadership.
Affected local government structures in Ijebu Ode and Sagamu have now been restored to their original leadership to “re-establish internal balance and inclusiveness,” Soluade added.
He noted that further attempts to seize control at state or local levels had been halted to safeguard internal democracy and ensure equal participation across the party.
In addition, a caretaker committee has been constituted to temporarily fill vacant state executive and local government chairmanship positions until the state congress is conducted.
“The caretaker committee will oversee party affairs until the state congress is held. Additional appointments into vacant state positions will be announced in the coming days as part of our repositioning strategy ahead of future electoral contests,” Soluade said.
Interim local government and ward executives will continue to function alongside membership mobilisation, revalidation, and registration activities coordinated by Hon. Taiwo Akinlabi and Hon. Mrs. Yemi Layeni.
He also noted that evidence concerning alleged “phantom allegations and compromise attempts” would be submitted to a competent court, and the ADC state media team has been suspended pending reconstitution.
Lawal Rejects Suspension
Reacting, Lawal dismissed the suspension, insisting that the state chairman lacked the authority to take such action.
Through his media aide, Austin Onyokor, Lawal said: “We don’t want to join issues with Otunba Femi Soluade; he is not the owner of the party. Whatever decision he has taken, he is certainly not the owner of the party. The owners are the national secretariat, and they will address the matter at the appropriate time.”

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.
The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.
He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.
Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.
In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
The legal notice maintained that the allegations were baseless and intended to damage the reputations of the two entertainers.
