Award-winning Nigerian filmmaker, Biodun Stephen, has opened up about her experience with female circumcision.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Speaking on the Diary Of A Naija Girl podcast, Stephen revealed that the procedure took place when she was six years old and was overseen by her grandmother as part of their family’s cultural tradition.

She recalled being taken outside under her grandmother’s supervision to a designated place for the circumcision. Initially, she was allowed to play and eat, which made her feel comfortable and unaware of what was about to happen.

Stephen described the moment she was asked to shower and lie down as the start of a painful experience that has stayed with her over the years. She noted that no explanation was given about the procedure at the time, and though her mother comforted her afterward, there was no detailed discussion.

Reflecting on the generational nature of the practice, Stephen said it was deeply rooted in tradition and often carried out without informing the children of its purpose.

She shared, “It was my grandma. God bless her soul. I was six years old when it happened, and I remember it vividly. Deep pain. As I speak to you, I still see that afternoon clearly. They took me to a mat outside, to the woman’s place. I was allowed to play and eat, which made me feel comfortable. Then my grandma said I should take a shower, and the next day they told me to lie down. The pain was searing. When I got home, my mother comforted me, rubbed my body, said ‘sorry, my baby,’ and that was it. There was no conversation about it.”

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
