The allegation was made by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, who claimed Makinde planned to become Atiku’s running mate under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Fayose also alleged that Makinde promised to split President Bola Tinubu’s votes in the Southwest, deliver Rivers State votes, and commit ₦10 billion to the opposition, with more funding to follow during the campaign.

In response, Atiku, through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, dismissed the claims as false and malicious. He described the report as a fabrication aimed at misleading the public and damaging his reputation.

Atiku stated that there were no negotiations over a vice-presidential slot, no discussions about financial contributions, and no secret political arrangements as alleged.

The statement emphasized that Atiku does not engage in secret deals, bribery, or transactional politics, urging the public to disregard what it called baseless propaganda.
