Why We’ve Not Taken Over PDP National Secretariat — Wike’s Camp Explains..

Published

on

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with former Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike has explained why it did not gain access to the party’s national secretariat at Wadata Plaza, Abuja, on Monday, citing ongoing administrative and security procedures by the police.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The group dismissed claims that the Nigeria Police Force rejected its request to reopen the secretariat, insisting that the delay was temporary and procedural.

Speaking on the development, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP National Caretaker Committee, Jungudo Mohammed, said reports suggesting that the police turned down their request were inaccurate.

He explained that the police were still carrying out internal administrative and security assessments before taking a final decision on reopening the facility.

Mohammed said the secretariat must eventually be reopened in line with a subsisting court order, noting that the closure was initially caused by disputes over the party’s leadership, a matter he said had already been resolved by the court.

According to him, law enforcement agencies are expected to act in accordance with the Federal High Court ruling to allow lawful party activities to resume at the headquarters.

He maintained that the faction would continue to engage the police peacefully and lawfully, stressing that it would not resort to violence or any unlawful action.

Mohammed added that although no specific date had been fixed for the reopening, the group remained optimistic that the secretariat would be reopened once the police concluded their internal processes.

The development comes amid heightened tension between the Wike-backed faction and the camp loyal to Tanimu Turaki (SAN)-led National Working Committee.

While the Wike-aligned group has insisted on reopening and taking over the party headquarters, the Turaki faction—reportedly backed by Governors Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed, Dauda Lawal and Ahmadu Fintiri—has warned that any breakdown of law and order at the secretariat would be the responsibility of the police.

On January 30, 2026, a Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan nullified the PDP National Convention held on November 15, 2025, and restrained Turaki and others elected at the convention from parading themselves as national officers of the party.

Prior to the ruling, PDP governors had endorsed the Ibadan convention, which produced Turaki and members of the National Working Committee for a four-year tenure.

Before the judgment, the governors had supervised a leadership transition from former acting chairman Umar Damagum to Turaki ahead of the expiration of Damagum’s tenure on December 9.

However, on December 8, the Wike-backed faction constituted a 13-member caretaker committee, appointing Abdulrahman Mohammed as acting national chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as acting national secretary with a 60-day mandate.

Attempts by both factions to hold meetings at Wadata Plaza on November 18, 2025, escalated into violence, prompting the police to seal the secretariat. The headquarters has remained closed for nearly three months.

Following the Ibadan court ruling in favour of the Wike faction, the party announced plans to hold a fresh national convention to elect new officers.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) later invited the Wike-backed faction to represent the PDP in compliance with the court order.

Earlier, Samuel Anyanwu had announced that the national secretariat would reopen on Monday for party activities, a move strongly opposed by the Turaki-led National Working Committee.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.
