“Oluwo Raises Alarm Over Foreign Security Moves After Woro Massacre”.
The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has warned President Bola Tinubu against foreign interference in Nigeria’s security matters, particularly regarding engagements involving the administration of former U.S. President Donald Trump.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Oba Akanbi condemned the recent killing of innocent villagers and cautioned against the politicisation of bandit attacks across the country.
The Osun monarch’s position was conveyed in a statement released on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Alli Ibraheem.
Expressing condolences to the people and government of Kwara State over the bandit attack on Woro village, which reportedly claimed over 170 lives, Oba Akanbi emphasized that Nigeria’s dealings with Western nations should be carefully managed to ensure they do not undermine national unity or security efforts.
He urged Nigerians to embrace unity and collective responsibility, stressing that insecurity cannot be effectively tackled in a divided society.
The Oluwo also expressed concern over the muted public response to the Woro attack, noting that the victims were predominantly Muslims, and warned against reactions driven by religious or political bias.
“The successes achieved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration are perceived as a threat by some Western countries, and any foreign involvement in Nigeria’s security architecture must be approached with caution,” he said.
“The limited public reaction to the Woro village tragedy is worrying. Over 170 Nigerians, mostly Muslims, were killed overnight,” Oba Akanbi added.
He further stressed that no country has successfully tackled banditry or terrorism by fostering religious divisions and called for a united national strategy to address security challenges.
The monarch also criticized individuals and groups he accused of exploiting bandit attacks for political or religious gain, describing such actions as unpatriotic.
Oba Akanbi called on security agencies to improve intelligence gathering and strengthen collaboration with local communities to prevent further attacks and loss of lives and property.
“I also urge the Nigerian security architecture to enhance intelligence operations. Information is power, and cooperation from local residents is essential to stopping banditry,” he said.
