“Kwara Massacre: Army Stopped Killings Abroad, Failed Nigerians – Olawepo-Hashim Demands UN Investigation”.
Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, a presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has urged the United Nations to investigate the recent mass killings in Woro, Kwara State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement, he called for scrutiny over why intelligence warnings about the attack were allegedly ignored, insisting that mere condolences are no longer enough in the face of such large-scale violence.
Describing the massacre as a stark example of Nigeria’s worsening rural insecurity, Olawepo-Hashim said the deaths of nearly 200 people highlighted serious flaws in the country’s security system, particularly the failure to respond quickly to distress calls from remote communities.
“This killing is unprecedented in scale and unmatched in barbarity. While I extend my condolences to the Woro community, words alone are insufficient,” he said.
He questioned why Nigeria’s air power was not deployed to halt the attack, despite Woro being less than a 15-minute flight from the Wawa–New Bussa axis. Olawepo-Hashim pointed out that the Nigerian Army has successfully intervened to stop killings in countries like Sierra Leone and Liberia, asking, “Why then can it not protect Nigerians in their own communities?”
Olawepo-Hashim also cited reports that attackers had issued a threat letter beforehand, raising concerns about the alleged withdrawal of troops.
“Nigerians deserve answers on who ordered the withdrawal and why. Repeated failures to protect rural communities risk pushing residents toward vigilantism and ethnic profiling,” he warned.
He called on the Federal Government, the Nigerian Air Force, and other security agencies to publish a detailed operational account, including timelines of distress calls and explanations for the absence of aerial intervention during the attack.

He stressed that effective coordination among security agencies was essential to preventing confrontations and maintaining peace across the territory.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.
The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.
He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.
Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.
In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
The legal notice maintained that the allegations were baseless and intended to damage the reputations of the two entertainers.
