Akpabio said the criticism trailing the move was misplaced, stressing that while lawmakers make the law, the conduct of elections and deployment of technology rest with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking at the public presentation of a book by former senator Effiong Bob, he urged Nigerians to direct their concerns to INEC, noting that the electoral body is constitutionally empowered to determine election modalities within the law.

“The Senate does not conduct elections or deploy technology; we only make laws. INEC applies them,” he said.

He cited infrastructure, security and network challenges as key reasons mandatory real-time transmission may not be practical nationwide, warning that network failures or national grid collapse could invalidate results in affected areas.

Describing politics as a reciprocal process, Wike stressed that the era of empty promises was over:

“Leaders must demonstrate their commitment to delivering good governance. You cannot make promises during elections and vanish afterward without fulfilling them. We asked you to support Tinubu, starting with the area council elections. On February 21, you came through, delivering 133 of the 135 polling units in the council for Tinubu. What more can we say but thank you? You have done your part; we will now do ours. Abaji people have spoken, and they spoke decisively,” he said.
