“NNPP Dumps Kwankwaso: ‘He’s Long Been Expelled’ Over Supreme Court Row”.
The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has officially disassociated itself from former presidential candidate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso following his claim that he facilitated a 2019 meeting between Governor Abba Yusuf and certain Supreme Court judges.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Over the weekend, the party clarified that Kwankwaso could not have acted on behalf of the NNPP at that time, noting that he was not a party member in 2019.
In a statement signed by NNPP National Secretary Oginni Olaposi Sunday, the party rejected any effort to link it to the controversy and urged the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to remove the NNPP’s name from petitions submitted to the Inspector-General of Police regarding the matter.
“We are setting the record straight. Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso was not a member of the NNPP in 2019 when he allegedly took Governor Abba Yusuf to meet some Supreme Court judges,” Oginni clarified.
The statement also noted that Kwankwaso joined the party shortly before the 2023 general elections, alongside other notable figures including Buba Galadima, Prof. Alkali, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, Prof. Hanga, and the current Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf.
Addressing claims of his role in founding the party, the NNPP emphasized that Kwankwaso was never among its founders.
“Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso was never one of the founding fathers of the NNPP. The authentic founder is Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam,” the statement affirmed.
The party further accused Kwankwaso of attempting to seize control after joining, alleging that he unilaterally altered the party’s logo and colours to reflect his Kwankwasiyya political movement without approval from the founder or Board of Trustees.
“It is unfortunate that Senator Kwankwaso sought to convert the intellectual property of the NNPP founder for his personal use,” the statement said.
The NNPP also recalled internal disputes in which a Kwankwaso-aligned faction challenged the legitimacy of a convention that elected Dr. Agbo Gilbert Major as National Chairman and Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday as National Secretary—a case later dismissed by the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja.
Reiterating its position, the party confirmed that Kwankwaso is no longer a member, having been expelled shortly after the 2023 elections for “gross misconduct.”
“We hereby reaffirm the resolution of the National Working Committee that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is no longer a member of the NNPP. He was expelled shortly after the 2023 election for gross misconduct,” Oginni said, noting that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja is investigating related matters.
The party reaffirmed its recognised leadership structure: Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam as Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Agbo Gilbert Major as National Chairman, and Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday as National Secretary.
“Senator Kwankwaso has long been expelled from the NNPP and should no longer be referred to as the National Leader of our party,” the statement concluded.

Mohammad Mokhber disclosed this on Wednesday during an interview on State TV, emphasizing that Tehran does not trust Washington and sees no grounds for dialogue.
According to Mokhber, Iran is prepared to continue the ongoing conflict in the Middle East for as long as necessary.
“We will not enter into any negotiations with the US. The Americans cannot be trusted. We can sustain the war for as long as we choose,” he said.
He added that previous interactions with the United States have left Iran doubtful about any diplomatic efforts.
His remarks come amid heightened tensions following reports that Khamenei was killed in joint US-Israeli strikes.
Meanwhile, Iran has announced plans for a three-day state funeral in honour of the late leader. The official Islamic Republic News Agency reported that members of the public will be allowed to pay their respects at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosque in Tehran.
“Starting at 10:00 pm (1830 GMT), the faithful will be able to pay their final respects to the body of the martyred guide of the nation at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosque,” the agency quoted a statement from the Islamic Development Coordination Council as saying.
Khamenei, who was 86 at the time of his death, is expected to be laid to rest in his hometown of Mashhad in northeastern Iran.

According to reports, Cameroon made a bright start at the Military Stadium, scoring first and hoping to build on their 1–0 victory over Nigeria in last weekend’s earlier encounter. However, the momentum soon shifted.
Christiane opened the scoring to give the Lionesses an early advantage and excite the home fans. Nigeria quickly regrouped, with Chiwendu Ihezuo equalising before Omorinsola Babajide and Michelle Alozie sealed the comeback with well-taken goals.
Reflecting on the match, Ndoumou admitted his side struggled after their promising start.
“We allowed Nigeria to dominate and push us back into our half. The goals came in quick succession,” he said after the game.
Nigeria, under head coach Justine Madugu, displayed improved intensity and sharper movement in the second half, applying sustained pressure that forced defensive lapses from the hosts.
Babajide played a key role in the turnaround, scoring once and providing an assist in an impressive performance that underscored her growing importance to the team.
“Great reaction from the team today,” the AS Roma Women forward wrote on .
The Super Falcons will now shift their attention to preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
