Renowned Engineer, Ex-ATBU VC Prof Bajoga Is Dead.

Professor Buba Garegy Bajoga, a distinguished academic, accomplished engineer, and respected elder statesman, has passed away.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

He died on Wednesday in the United Kingdom at the age of 88.

Prof. Bajoga had a stellar career in engineering and education that spanned decades. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1968, followed by a PhD from the State University of New York in 1972. He rose through the academic ranks at ABU, becoming a Professor of Electrical Engineering in 1984.

He played a key role in the development of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, where he served two terms as Vice-Chancellor between 1984 and 1994. His leadership helped the university achieve autonomous status, and he also chaired the Committee of Vice-Chancellors, solidifying his impact on Nigeria’s higher education sector.

Beyond academia, Prof. Bajoga contributed significantly to Nigeria’s telecommunications and engineering industries. He held leadership positions at Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL) and served in important roles with the Nigerian Communications Commission and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, influencing policy, regulation, and institutional governance.

Reacting to his passing, Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya described Prof. Bajoga as “an academic of international repute, a disciplined educator, and an illustrious son of Gombe State who dedicated his life to scholarship, public service, and national development.”

In a statement, the governor highlighted the professor’s role as Chairman of the Committee on Tertiary Institutions in 2020, whose report continues to guide reforms in Gombe State’s higher education.

“Prof. Bajoga was a man of exceptional intellect, integrity, and commitment to national service. His counsel and experience greatly strengthened our efforts to reform and reposition tertiary education in the state,” Governor Yahaya said, adding that the late scholar would be remembered for his humility, discipline, and dedication to education and engineering.

He extended heartfelt condolences to Prof. Bajoga’s family, the academic community, and all touched by his life, praying for Allah’s mercy and that his good deeds be rewarded with Aljannatul Firdaus.

In an interview on Channels Television on Monday, Fayose suggested that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde might be complicit in the incident. Fayose alleged that the kidnapping could be a calculated effort to blackmail President Tinubu, pointing to the timing of the event as a cause for suspicion regarding Governor Makinde’s potential involvement.

  • He noted that if such an event had occurred during his father’s time there in 1959 and 1960, his own life might not have been possible.

The Governor maintained that tackling insecurity requires a collective response rather than political finger-pointing regarding the responsibilities of the President, the Governor, or local government officials.

On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) rested its prosecution case against Ali Bello and Dauda Suleiman after presenting 17 witnesses before Justice James Omotosho at the Federal High Court in Abuja. During the proceedings, the final prosecution witness, investigator Ahmed Audu Abubakar, concluded his testimony. The court admitted four statements from Abdulsalam Hudu, the Kogi State Government House cashier, into evidence as exhibits. In his testimony, the witness highlighted a statement detailing a ₦300,000 transaction involving Ali Bello—the current Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo—purportedly for the purchase of books for a community school project.

Following the discharge of the 17th witness, the prosecution formally closed its case. In response, defense counsel for both defendants indicated their intent to file a “no-case submission”. Justice Omotosho granted the request for a timeline to file these submissions and their respective replies, adjourning the trial until June 15, 2026, for the adoption of written addresses.
