The motion, flagged as urgent public importance, focused on the ambush of Nigeria Police Mobile Force operatives in Bakori LGA, which left three policemen dead and two critically injured.

Senator Mohammed Dandutse, who sponsored the motion, said attacks spanned multiple local government areas: 24 in Faskari, eight in Dandume, two in Funtua, and one in Kankara. He warned that ongoing violence had forced the abandonment of over 50,000 farmlands, threatening food production and local livelihoods.

Dandutse noted that Governor Dikko Radda had led a delegation from the Funtua Zone to meet President Bola Tinubu, who promised to establish a military barracks in Malumfashi to address the security challenges. He also highlighted porous routes linking Katsina to Kaduna and Zamfara states, which bandits exploit to carry out attacks.

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and other lawmakers called for strengthened security efforts, including increased troop deployment, modern equipment, and intelligence-led operations. Several senators emphasized the economic importance of the affected areas and warned against negotiating with bandits, as such actions may encourage further criminal activity.

The Senate passed the motion, urging the President to fast-track the establishment of the military barracks, direct the Inspector-General of Police to equip the new police squadron with at least three Armoured Personnel Carriers, and ensure sustained coordinated security operations.

Additionally, the upper chamber mandated the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief to affected communities. The session observed a one-minute silence in honour of the victims.
