Speaking on Wednesday during Senate plenary under Order 42, Maidoki stressed that national security must take precedence over infrastructure projects, noting that roads and schools mean little if citizens are forced to abandon their communities due to violence.

He highlighted that despite the dedication of the armed forces, personnel shortages leave the military overstretched. Maidoki revealed that his brother, a warrant officer, was recently killed fighting bandits, describing the loss as personal yet a source of pride for his service.

The senator warned that Nigeria’s roughly 230,000 soldiers as of 2025 are not enough to combat banditry and other security threats nationwide. He questioned how long the country intends to battle banditry, emphasizing the need for adequate funding in the upcoming budget to strengthen the armed forces.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio expressed solidarity, acknowledging public frustration over persistent security challenges and the difficulty of deploying troops across Nigeria’s vast territory. He affirmed that lawmakers remain committed to supporting initiatives aimed at restoring peace and security.

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.

Adewara said the PDP would not remain silent while what he called “political narratives” are used to influence public perception around a tragic incident that claimed multiple lives in Offa in 2018.
