“Defence HQ Explains Reason Behind Kwara Mass Killings By Terrorists”.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) in Abuja has stated that the deadly attacks on Woro and surrounding communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State were carried out by terrorists angered by the villagers’ refusal to submit to ideological indoctrination.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Describing the incident as a cowardly assault on innocent citizens, the DHQ said the attackers had initially sought permission to preach and conduct indoctrination sessions in Woro, which the residents outrightly rejected.
In a statement on Thursday signed by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the military said troops had been deployed to the area following the initial threat and maintained patrols, surveillance, and other security measures for about two weeks.
“However, weeks after the troops withdrew, the cowardly terrorists returned to kill innocent citizens in protest and to terrorise inhabitants and others,” the DHQ noted. Over 170 residents were reportedly killed during Tuesday’s attack.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) praised the resilience of the people of Woro and neighbouring communities for standing firm and refusing to abandon their way of life or constitutional loyalty despite threats.
“The AFN mourns with the families of those who lost loved ones in these and other similar brutal attacks on defenceless citizens defending community values and freedom across Nigeria,” the statement read.
The DHQ urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their faith in the Constitution and to resist ideological indoctrination by violent extremist groups, warning that such groups aim to impose “twisted beliefs through terror and intimidation.” It also called for stronger cooperation between citizens and security agencies, stressing that unity and resilience are Nigeria’s strongest defences against terrorism.
Reaffirming its commitment, the DHQ said security agencies are intensifying efforts to track down and prosecute those responsible for the Kaiama attacks and other terrorist acts nationwide.
Meanwhile, Amnesty International has condemned the rising wave of killings and abductions across Nigeria, saying the persistent violence highlights the failure of authorities to protect lives and property.
In a statement on Thursday, the group described Nigerians as increasingly unsafe, with gunmen and criminal gangs operating with near-total impunity in several states. Amnesty referred to February 3, 2026, as a “Bloody Tuesday,” citing coordinated attacks in Woro and Nuku (Kwara State), Doma Tafoki (Katsina State), and Abande (Benue State), which reportedly left scores dead.
“Alarming escalation of attacks, abductions for ransom, and frequent killings across Nigeria have left people feeling increasingly unsafe, reflecting the utter failure of Nigerian authorities to protect lives and properties,” Amnesty said.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
