The leadership of organised labour and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, have resolved the dispute that disrupted activities in Abuja in recent days.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The agreement followed a marathon meeting convened by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the FCT, Senator Mohammed Bomoi, which lasted over three hours.

According to reports, the discussions started tensely, with a brief shouting match among key participants before calm was restored. Senator Bomoi intervened, urging both parties to engage constructively.

The meeting, which began just before midnight, concluded around 3:50 am on Tuesday.

In attendance were Wike, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, his Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, Festus Osifo, as well as secretaries from both labour centres and other key stakeholders.

Earlier, organised labour—comprising the NLC and TUC—had insisted on proceeding with a mass protest to press workers’ demands within the FCT Administration. The FCT police had urged labour to postpone the action for safety reasons, while the minister secured an interim court order restraining both unions from carrying out the protest.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, NLC Acting General Secretary Benson Upah said it was agreed that no worker would face victimisation over the industrial action. He added that all pending cases at the National Industrial Court would be withdrawn immediately.

“All affiliates are hereby informed that a conciliatory meeting was held between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, under the initiative of the Chairman, Senate Committee on FCT, Senator Mohammed Bomoi. All complaints from JUAC members were addressed fully, one by one. The Honourable Minister assured organised labour of mutual respect and continued engagement going forward,” Upah said.

He announced that workers in the FCT had been directed to resume duties immediately.

“Accordingly, all JUAC members and affiliates of the TUC and NLC working in the Ministry of the FCT are directed to return to work immediately. All affiliates are urged to comply strictly with this directive in the interest of industrial peace and harmony,” he added.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2008 Ballon d’Or-winning campaign has been voted the greatest season in the history of the prestigious award in a fan poll organised by French magazine France Football to celebrate its 70th anniversary.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Portuguese superstar emerged at the top of the Ballon d’Or of All Time (BOAT) ranking, finishing ahead of Lionel Messi’s 2012 campaign, while Ronaldo’s 2017 triumph secured third place.

Football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano announced the results on social media on Wednesday, October 28, following the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony.

Messi’s 2023 campaign ranked fourth, while Ronaldo’s 2016 season came fifth. Other campaigns by the two football icons also featured prominently in the top 10, with Ronaldo’s 2014 and 2013 victories making the list alongside Messi’s 2015, 2011 and 2009 seasons.

The ranking featured 32 Ballon d’Or-winning campaigns involving 10 football legends, with fans voting for the individual seasons they considered the greatest in the award’s history.

Ronaldo won his first Ballon d’Or in 2008 following an exceptional season with Manchester United, scoring 42 goals across all competitions and helping the English club secure both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles.

The Portuguese forward also finished as the Premier League’s leading scorer with 31 goals and claimed the European Golden Shoe during the 2007/08 campaign.

His remarkable performances earned him 446 points in the original Ballon d’Or voting, placing him ahead of Messi, who finished second.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star went on to win the award four more times, in 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017, taking his overall tally to five.

Messi, meanwhile, remains the competition’s most successful player, having won the Ballon d’Or a record eight times. His 2023 victory followed Argentina’s triumph at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Elsewhere in the ranking, Brazilian football legend Ronaldo Nazário’s 2002 campaign finished 13th, while Johan Cruyff’s 1974 season placed 17th. Michel Platini’s 1984 triumph came 18th, ahead of Franz Beckenbauer’s 1976 campaign.

The poll focused on individual Ballon d’Or-winning seasons rather than players’ overall careers. It was independent of the official annual award, which is determined by a jury of specialist journalists.

Fresh Crisis Hits ADC As Hotel Accommodation Dispute Forces Campaign Postponement.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rescheduled the flag-off of its presidential campaign in Sokoto State to November 4, 2026, moving the event from its original date of October 31.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The decision comes amid allegations by the party that the Sokoto State Government directed hotels in the state capital to deny accommodation to delegates expected to attend the campaign rally.

The ADC had claimed that some delegates who had booked rooms and checked into hotels were subsequently asked to leave following the alleged directive.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the ADC Presidential Campaign Council in Sokoto State attributed the postponement to planning and coordination concerns.

“The decision follows the need to address certain planning and coordination considerations to ensure the successful conduct of the event,” The Punch quoted the statement as saying.

The party had earlier criticised the alleged restrictions on hotel accommodation, describing them as an attempt to frustrate its preparations for the campaign flag-off.

However, the campaign council did not explicitly link the postponement to the hotel accommodation allegations in its announcement.

The council also apologised to party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and members of the public who might be affected by the change of date.

“The Campaign Council regrets any inconvenience the change may cause and sincerely appreciates the understanding, patience and continued support of party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and members of the public,” the statement added.

The council urged party members and other stakeholders to take note of the revised date, assuring them that preparations were ongoing to receive political leaders, supporters and other guests at the event.
