Wike Accuses Rivers Govt Of Blocking Renewed Hope Family From Public Facility.

Political tensions in Rivers State escalated on Friday as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, accused the state government of obstructing the activities of the Renewed Hope Family by denying them access to a key public facility.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Wike made the allegation during the inauguration of senatorial and local government coordinators of the Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors.

According to the minister, his request to use the General Yakubu Gowon Stadium for the ceremony was rejected by the Rivers State Government.

He, however, issued a stern warning that future refusals would be met with resistance.

“We applied to the state government for the General Yakubu Gowon Stadium. They refused us. But let me make this clear: next time, if approval is denied, we will proceed by force,” Wike said.

He added, “Enough is enough. We are all from Rivers State, and no one can deny us access to public facilities. If permission is not granted, we will do what is necessary and take it by force. Heaven will never fall, and even if it does, peace will prevail.”

The programme was eventually held at Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic in Rumuola, another state-owned facility.

Reports indicate that Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his supporters—who have also pledged support for President Bola Tinubu’s reelection—were absent from the inauguration. Despite their shared support for the president, tensions remain between the FCT minister and the governor.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State House of Assembly has resumed impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, citing allegations of financial misappropriation.

The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured that efforts are underway to resolve the political crisis in the state. Speaking on TVC, APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru said Wike’s involvement is crucial, even though he is not a member of the party, given his support for President Tinubu and his influence in Rivers State.

He stressed that although the commissions have different regional mandates, they must work towards a shared national goal of inclusive and sustainable development.

Highlighting existing challenges, the minister pointed to issues such as project duplication, abandoned initiatives, and rivalry among agencies. He said the government would prioritise better coordination and accountability to improve results.

Momoh also announced plans to focus on completing ongoing projects before initiating new ones and revealed that performance bonds would be introduced for commission leaders to ensure efficiency and transparency.

He further emphasised the need to explore alternative funding options, including public-private partnerships, while maintaining strict financial discipline and due process.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.
