The Senate has set March 17 as the deadline for the consideration and passage of the 2026 national budget, estimated at ₦58.472 trillion.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The decision was reached on Friday during a special meeting of the Senate Committee on Appropriations in Abuja.

Chairman of the committee, Senator Solomon Adeola, explained that the schedule was deliberately designed to allow thorough engagement with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as input from the public.

He disclosed that committee-level consideration of budget estimates will take place from February 2 to 13, while a public hearing on the 2026 Appropriation Bill has been fixed for February 9.

“Budget hearings and engagements with MDAs will run from Monday, February 2, to Friday, February 13, during which subcommittee chairmen will invite relevant MDAs for presentations and discussions,” Adeola said.

According to him, a keynote presentation will be delivered at the public hearing by Professor Wasiu Adeoye, an economist from the University of Lagos.

The presentation, titled “Strengthening Microeconomic Stability, Accelerating Infrastructure Delivery, and Improving Security through Fiscal Discipline and Effective Implementation of the 2026 Budget,” will focus on key fiscal priorities.

To promote coordination between the executive and legislative arms, the committee also scheduled an interactive session with top government economic officials for March 5.

Those expected include the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu.

Senator Adeola further stated that chairmen of standing committees are required to submit their budget defence reports between February 16 and 23.

These submissions will form the basis of the final appropriation report to be laid before the Senate on March 17.

Although Senate leadership had initially proposed March 12 for the budget’s passage, Adeola said he requested a brief extension to allow for a more detailed process.

“We need to work within the available time and still ensure the budget is passed, even though leadership suggested March 12,” he said.

“Given how demanding the process can be once it begins, I persuaded them to consider March 17 or 19 for passage.”

He added that printed copies of the 2026 budget have already been circulated to relevant committee chairmen and members to support careful scrutiny.

The timetable was formally adopted following a motion moved by Senator Adamu Aliero (APC, Kebbi) and seconded by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (APC, Abia).

2027: Gov Sule Sparks Buzz, Reveals Who He Wants As Nasarawa’s Next Governor.

Published

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has openly backed Aliyu Wadada as his preferred governorship candidate under the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Sule made this known during a meeting with political appointees at the Government House in Lafia, a move seen as an early signal of political succession plans in the state.

Wadada, who currently represents Nasarawa West in the 10th Senate, recently dumped the Social Democratic Party for the APC, further fuelling speculations about his governorship ambition.

The governor also faulted public officials who parade routine duties like salary payments, road construction and provision of basic amenities as landmark achievements.

Simple Tips For Whiter Teeth

Speaking on Wednesday at the 59th inaugural lecture of Nasarawa State University, Sule said governance should go beyond basic responsibilities and focus on policies that directly improve people’s lives.

According to him, leaders must think beyond conventional projects and pursue solutions that bring lasting impact to citizens.

Using his administration as an example, Sule recalled how frequent fire outbreaks at a major market used to force the government into repeated relief payouts to traders.

He said rather than continuing temporary interventions, his government chose to build a modern market to permanently tackle the problem, adding that there has been no report of another fire incident since the reconstruction.

Sule also highlighted the construction of a bridge in Auta near Keffi, which he said has greatly reduced years of devastating flooding in the area.

At the event, Ike Neliaku praised Sule’s development strides, especially road and infrastructure projects across key parts of the state.

Also speaking, Emmanuel Dandaura stressed the need for institutions to align communication with performance, warning that failure to do so could erode public trust.
