Gideon Okeke Calls Out Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy Over Lack of Support for Nollywood....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Nollywood actor Gideon Okeke has criticized Afrobeats superstars for not promoting the Nigerian film industry.

In a recent Instagram post, Okeke pointed out that while Nollywood consistently celebrates the achievements of Nigerian musicians, the gesture is rarely reciprocated by singers.

Okeke singled out top artistes like Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, and Rema, suggesting they could leverage their influence to boost Nigerian cinema. He questioned whether they watch Nigerian movies or have noticed actors worth promoting.

“You know how we carry Afrobeats on our heads? We talk about the big three, big five; we’ve almost idolized ourselves,” Okeke said.

He continued, “I ask myself: Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Rema – don’t you watch Nigerian films? Since Netflix came here, haven’t you seen any Nigerian movies? Haven’t you come across an actor or actress you could actively promote? Can’t you use your voice to highlight exceptional talent?”

Okeke also criticized a trend where musicians attempt to “sneak into Nollywood” by taking roles as executive producers, arguing that their support could be far more impactful if offered openly.

“You are beginning to act as executive producers, sneaking into the cracks. What would happen if you openly endorsed a producer, actor, actress, or cameraman?” he asked.

He urged musicians to publicly celebrate Nollywood’s best talent, similar to how international platforms recognize them. “Publish your own 2025 baddest Nollywood films, actors, actresses, and producers – the way Obama highlights you every year. Your endorsements can drive attention to others in the industry,” he added.

Okeke concluded, “When you travel overseas and meet foreigners, why not say, ‘Our actors are exceptional, they can compete with Hollywood. We are all connected, and our actresses are outstanding’? That’s the recognition our industry deserves.”

Fresh Twist In Mohbad’s Case As Family Challenges Secrecy Surrounding Liam’s DNA Test.

The family of late Afrobeats singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has opposed plans to send samples from his son, Liam, to an unidentified laboratory in the United States for a DNA test.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The family is demanding that the identity of the laboratory be made public and that the sample collection scheduled for Saturday at Mainland General Hospital/IDH, Yaba, Lagos, be suspended pending clarification.

The head of the family, Samuel Aloba, raised the concerns in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to the family, a court order dated May 5, 2026, specifically designated the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre to conduct the DNA test.

The family questioned whether the centre would carry out the examination itself or merely collect the samples before sending them to another laboratory abroad.

“This raises a fundamental question that must be answered before the exercise proceeds: Is the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre itself going to conduct the examination contemplated by the court, or is it merely going to collect and dispatch samples to another laboratory?” the statement read.

The family maintained that no party should change the arrangement contained in an existing court order without first seeking clarification from the court.

It also demanded the name and address of the proposed US laboratory, evidence of its accreditation and professional competence, as well as comprehensive details of how the samples would be handled from collection to analysis.

Additionally, the family requested assurances that the samples collected in Lagos would be properly documented and that their identity could be verified throughout the process to ensure they were the same samples examined by the foreign laboratory.

Addressing suggestions that the laboratory’s identity could be disclosed only to the court, the family argued that confidentiality should not come at the expense of transparency and accountability.

Nollywood actress Habibat Jinadu has disclosed that she bleached her skin in a bid to secure more acting opportunities in the movie industry.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The actress made the revelation during an interview with BBC Yoruba, where she explained that she initially believed her dark complexion and slim body were limiting her chances of getting movie roles.

According to Jinadu, she felt pressured to change her physical appearance because she believed the industry favoured light-skinned and chubby actresses.

She said she decided to bleach her skin in the hope of increasing her chances of being cast in movies, adding that the decision initially appeared to yield the desired results.

Jinadu, however, disclosed that the change in her appearance made it difficult for some people to recognise her, while she also began experiencing skin injuries and tears from minor bruises on movie sets.

She said: “I bleached my skin because if you were dark-skinned, then you would not get a role. Also, if you were not chubby but slim, you would not get a role. So, I went ahead, bleached my skin and started expecting to get roles. And indeed, I started getting roles. But people could not recognise me any longer. If I stepped out to buy something, people would go like, ‘You look familiar,’ ‘You look like an actress,’ and all sorts. I was not happy with it, but I kept on pushing.

“Then, I started sustaining injuries and tears from minor bruises on sets and all. It all dawned on me when I got pregnant in 2023. And when you are pregnant, you cannot bleach your skin. When I eventually stopped, people started abusing me and calling me all sorts of names.”
