According to Aladese, walking had always been part of her daily routine. While living in Magodo, she said she could take long walks, even late at night, without feeling threatened or unsafe.

After relocating to Lekki, she attempted to maintain the habit by going on early morning walks or taking evening strolls after returning from movie sets.

However, she explained that she never felt at ease in the new environment. The discomfort, she said, intensified at the start of the year when she decided to become more consistent with her fitness routine.

During most of her walks, she wore earphones but stayed alert, often looking over her shoulder because of a constant sense of unease.

She added that the presence of numerous construction workers and labourers in the area heightened her fears.

Recalling a particularly unsettling incident, Aladese said she once finished work early and went out for a walk, only to notice three men walking behind her and changing direction each time she turned into a different street.

With poor lighting along the road, her anxiety increased as she became convinced the men were following her. When she spotted some labourers approaching from another direction, she immediately switched course and ran straight into her house instead of continuing the walk.

From her balcony, she later observed the men reach the end of the street, pause to look around, and then turn back, reinforcing her belief that they had been trailing her.

Following the incident, the actress said she completely stopped outdoor walks. She later bought a treadmill from a shopping mall so she could continue exercising safely at home.

Aladese also noted that many women live with constant fear in public spaces, adding that men often do not fully grasp how unsafe everyday activities can feel for women.
