The appointment was confirmed on Monday by the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, who noted that Enyimba, Nigeria’s most decorated club, has struggled to maintain its usual high standards in recent seasons.

According to Kanu, the Otti administration is committed to restoring the club’s direction through professionalism, sustainability, and robust corporate governance, with the selection of Deutsch Detchoua central to this vision.

“The appointment of Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel is part of our strategic plan to revitalize the club’s technical leadership, boost its competitive edge, and establish a strong foundation for long-term success,” the statement read.

The statement highlighted the new coach’s credentials: “Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel is a highly experienced football tactician, holding CAF A, B, and C coaching licenses. He has served as Technical Adviser and Head Coach at reputable clubs in Nigeria and Cameroon, earning accolades including the Nigeria National League (NNL) Best Coach Award in 2025.”

Governor Otti expressed confidence that the coach’s experience, technical expertise, and professional discipline would be key to rebuilding the People’s Elephant.

The appointment follows the brief tenure of former Crown FC coach Deji Ayeni, whose appointment did not yield immediate results, as Enyimba suffered a 2-0 away defeat to Niger Tornadoes in Minna.

Meanwhile, in the NPFL, Rangers International have lost left-back Evans Ogbonda, who confirmed his departure from the Enugu club in an emotional farewell message.

Ogbonda, who joined Rangers in 2024, thanked the club’s management, technical crew, and supporters for their support during his spell with the Flying Antelopes. He is expected to join a new club before the current transfer window closes.

“I want to thank the incredible general manager, Amobi Ezeaku, and manager Fidelis Ilechukwu for their unwavering support,” Ogbonda said. “I’m also grateful to the other coaches, backroom staff, supporters, and management for everything they did for me.”

  • Warning of Electoral Disruption: He issued a stern declaration that if Peter Obi is frustrated and kept off the 2027 ballot, the election will not be able to proceed.

  • A Call to Awareness: Framing his statement as both a warning and a “prophecy,” the reverend emphasized that he is speaking on behalf of a citizenry that has grown weary of the current political status quo.
