The Armed Forces of Nigeria have completed investigations into 16 military officers arrested over acts of indiscipline and violations of service regulations, with some set to face trial before military judicial panels.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja.

Uba recalled that the Defence Headquarters announced the officers’ arrest in October 2025, noting that the investigation has now been concluded in line with established military procedures and existing regulations.

He explained that the probe reviewed the conduct of the affected officers and identified those with cases to answer. Some of the allegations, he said, relate to plots to overthrow the government—actions described as incompatible with the ethics, values and professional standards of the Armed Forces.

According to him, officers found culpable will be arraigned before appropriate military judicial panels.

Uba stressed that the measures are strictly disciplinary, forming part of internal mechanisms to safeguard discipline, cohesion and operational effectiveness within the military.

He reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to professionalism, loyalty and respect for constitutional authority, assuring the public that due process and fairness will be fully observed throughout the trial process.

“The Defence Headquarters issued a statement in October 2025 on the arrest of sixteen officers for acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations,” the statement said.

“Investigations have now been concluded and the report forwarded to the appropriate superior authority in line with extant regulations.

“The findings identified some officers with allegations of plotting to overthrow the government, which is inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards required of members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”
