The development led to the postponement of Ozekhome’s scheduled arraignment before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court on Monday.

Naija News reports that Ozekhome is facing a three-count charge from the ICPC, which includes allegations of forgery and related offences.

During proceedings, the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), representing the AGF, informed the court that the prosecution had been taken over under powers granted by Section 174 of the Constitution.

The ICPC’s counsel, Osuebeni Akpomisingha, raised no objection to the transfer, and Ozekhome’s defense team, led by former AGF Kanu Agabi (SAN) and comprising 15 Senior Advocates of Nigeria, also did not contest the move.

Following an adjournment request by Oyedepo, which Agabi did not oppose, Justice Peter Kekemeke rescheduled the arraignment for February 24.

The ICPC had accused Ozekhome of submitting a falsified Nigerian passport and other documents to support his claim to a property at 79 Randall Avenue, London NW2 7SX. The alleged offences reportedly took place in August 2021 in Abuja’s Maitama district.

The three-count charge includes giving false information, using forged documents, and attempting to mislead a public authority.

President Bola Tinubu has firmly criticized former vice-presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, dismissing his recent proposal to reinstate the petrol subsidy regime as a fundamental lack of understanding of economic management and governance.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Upon taking office, the current administration discontinued the fuel subsidy and floated the national currency to address structural economic imbalances. While these sweeping policy changes triggered widespread financial pressures and heightened the cost of living for average citizens, the government maintains that the reforms were essential for long-term fiscal stability.

Addressing critics from the Presidential Villa, President Tinubu defended the decision by highlighting its immediate impact on sub-national finances. He pointed out that prior to the intervention, numerous state governments struggled to meet monthly obligations to workers and retirees. According to the administration, the savings generated from ending the subsidy have since enabled states to consistently service salary arrears and pension commitments, framing the policy shift as a vital corrective measure for the nation’s broader financial framework.
