NNPP Founder Dismisses Gov Yusuf’s Exit, Says Resignation Letter Invalid

Published

on

Founder of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Boniface Aniebonam, has refuted claims that Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf resigned from the party.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Aniebonam clarified that Yusuf stepped down only from the Kwankwasiya Movement, not from the NNPP itself.

Speaking in a statement on Saturday, he emphasized that the resignation letter was not addressed to the authentic NNPP National Working Committee (NWC) led by Major Agbo, nor to the state chairman or ward secretary, but to a member of the Kwankwasiya Movement in Diso-Chiranchi Ward, Gwale Local Government Area.

“The NNPP NWC does not recognise the Kwankwasiya Movement ward chairman as a party chairman,” Aniebonam said.

He added that he was unaware of any resignation from Yusuf or other political officeholders within the party, stressing his role as NNPP founder and Chairman of its Board of Trustees.

“The NNPP lifted the governor’s suspension and directed him to take responsibility for the party’s leadership as the highest elected officer. Court judgments from Abia State and the FCT directed INEC to recognise the Aniebonam-led Board of Trustees.

“The FCT High Court also restrained INEC from engaging with the Kwankwasiya Movement. The NNPP is a registered political party, while Kwankwasiya was a pressure group whose Memorandum of Association was terminated after the 2023 presidential elections, and its defunct NWC led by Dr. Ahmed Ajuji was expelled for anti-party activities.

“Governor Yusuf and others were elected under the NNPP platform using the basket-of-fruits logo, not the Kwankwasiya insignia,” he explained.

Aniebonam described INEC’s delay in updating records to reflect Agbo Major and Oginni Olaposi-led NWC as an administrative lapse, unrelated to court rulings, which must be respected. He noted that ongoing judicial review at the FCT High Court seeks to compel INEC to update its records.

He further stated that while Yusuf’s reasons for resigning are acknowledged, the NNPP has no issues with the governor’s personal choices. He also blamed internal dissent in Kano on the “high-handedness of Kwankwasiya,” which he regretted.

Aniebonam urged party members in Kano and nationwide to remain calm and committed, expressing optimism for more victories in the 2027 elections.

In a statement on Friday, the party’s spokesperson, Olusegun Adewara, said the development is a disturbing and dangerous politicisation of a case they claim has already been addressed through judicial processes.

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.

Adewara said the PDP would not remain silent while what he called “political narratives” are used to influence public perception around a tragic incident that claimed multiple lives in Offa in 2018.

He also urged residents, especially affected families, not to allow their pain to be used for political gains, insisting it is unjust to associate Saraki with the crime.

The party further alleged that the move is aimed at distracting attention from governance challenges in the state.
