“Nigerian Army Refutes Reports Of Recruit’s Death During Training”.
The Nigerian Army has dismissed claims that Ibrahim Nazifi, a Gombe State indigene, died during military training at the Depot Nigerian Army (NA), Zaria, describing the reports as false and misleading.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement issued by Captain Chikadibia Viola Anele, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations at Depot NA Zaria, the Army clarified that while Nazifi was shortlisted for training, he never reported to the Depot. The statement was shared on the X handle of the Defence Headquarters on Saturday.
According to the Army, records show that “Ibrahim Nazifi successfully passed the State Recruitment Screening Exercise conducted in December 2025 and was subsequently shortlisted for training at Depot Zaria.” However, he “never reported to the Depot for commencement of his training and at no point was he admitted into the training programme.”
The Army stressed that the Depot has “no record of his presence, participation, injury, or death during training,” insisting that no such incident occurred on its premises.
The statement urged the Gombe State Government and other relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported death, advising them to determine “where, when, and under what circumstances the purported deceased died,” as the alleged incident did not take place at Depot NA Zaria.
While acknowledging the rigour of military training, the Nigerian Army emphasised that demanding conditions are intended to build endurance, resilience, and combat readiness, and should not be misconstrued as negligence. The statement added that, although casualties may occur in rare cases, “robust safety measures, medical coverage, and risk-mitigation procedures are firmly in place to ensure maximum protection of trainees.”
The Army called on the public to disregard the reports and avoid spreading unverified information that could mislead citizens and damage the reputation of the Nigerian Army.
