Tinubu Swears In New FCC Chairman, 37 State Commissioners.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday officially swore in Hulayat Omidiran as the new Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), alongside 37 commissioners representing the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, at the State House, Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The ceremony, held at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, marked the formal inauguration of Omidiran, 59, who succeeds Dr. Muheeba Dankaka, whose reappointment was reversed on the same day Omidiran’s nomination was announced.

A former two-term member of the House of Representatives, Omidiran represented Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency in Osun State from 2011 to 2019. An indigene of Ikire, Osun State, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Beyond her legislative career, Omidiran has extensive experience in sports administration. She served as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Sports and held roles in football administration, including membership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) board, chairperson of the NFF Women’s Football Committee, and membership of the FIFA Women’s Football Committee. She also sits on the Board of Trustees of the Nigeria Olympic Committee and founded the Omidiran Babes Football Club in Osogbo in 1997.

President Tinubu appointed Omidiran on August 11, 2025, and her nomination was confirmed by the Senate on November 27, 2025, following a security screening and her appearance before the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs on October 30. Mohammed Musa was sworn in as Secretary of the Commission.

The commissioners inaugurated include Peter Eze (Enugu), AbdulWasiu Bawalla (Lagos), Obinna Oriaku (Abia), Lawal Roni (Jigawa), Abubakar Bunu (Kebbi), Eludayo Eluyemi (Osun), Bema Madayi (Adamawa), Dora Ebong (Akwa Ibom), Nnoli Gloria (Anambra), Babangida Gwana (Bauchi), Sir Tonye Okio (Bayelsa), Aligba Tarkende (Benue), Modu Mustapha (Borno), Dr. Stella Ekpo (Cross River), Ederin Idisi (Delta), and Solomon Dagami (FCT), among others.

After the brief swearing-in, President Tinubu personally greeted the chairperson and commissioners. Notable attendees included the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake; Permanent Secretary of the State House, Temitope Fashedemi; and Permanent Secretary of the Cabinet Affairs Office, Dr. John Ezeamama.

2.2 Million Candidates Sit for 2026 UTME Nationwide.

The 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) began nationwide on Thursday, with over 2.2 million candidates expected to participate across accredited centres.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The exam, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), will run from April 16 to April 22 in multiple daily sessions.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, urged examination officials to remain highly committed and professional, noting that the success of the exercise depends largely on their dedication.

He gave the charge during a virtual final briefing for technical officers ahead of the examination, where he also praised staff, ad hoc personnel, service providers, and technical advisers for their roles in the successful conduct of the mock exam.

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.

Reiterating JAMB’s zero-tolerance stance on malpractice, he warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.

He also disclosed that biometric verification and real-time monitoring systems have been deployed to protect the integrity of the exercise.

Candidates whose biometrics cannot be verified, he added, will be rescheduled to write the exam at approved centres.

Meanwhile, a NAN correspondent monitoring proceedings at Aduvie International School, Jahi, reported that the first session scheduled for 8:30 a.m. began slightly behind schedule at about 8:40 a.m.
