Kaduna Abductions: Police Say They’re Still Gathering Victim Names, Deny Mixed Messages.

Published

on

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that it is still compiling the names of those abducted during the recent mass kidnapping in Kurmin Wali, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, made the disclosure on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Hundeyin said the police are actively investigating the incident and will provide updates once verified information becomes available.

“We are still collating names, but we have an estimate. This is an ongoing investigation,” he said. “It’s not like we have CCTV cameras there that can tell us exactly what happened. Once we have further details, we will update Nigerians.”

He confirmed that the abduction did occur and reassured the public that significant resources have been deployed to the area.

“We can confirm the incident happened, and all available resources have been mobilised,” Hundeyin added.

He further revealed that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, ordered the deployment of a police helicopter for aerial surveillance of the affected communities.

“In fact, today we mobilised a helicopter for air surveillance. That shows how seriously we are taking this,” he said.

The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, also personally visited the community to supervise operations.

“The IGP gave the directive this morning, and the Commissioner of Police went there himself,” Hundeyin noted.

Police dismiss claims of conflicting statements

Hundeyin denied reports suggesting the police had given contradictory statements about the abduction.

Earlier claims stated that over 100 worshippers were kidnapped from local churches, with initial police statements reportedly denying evidence before later confirming the incident.

“There is no inconsistency in police statements,” Hundeyin said. “When we first received the information, we mobilised to the area but had not yet obtained evidence. Once evidence was verified, we confirmed the incident.”

He added that police response includes tactical units, intensified patrols, and targeted search-and-rescue operations aimed at recovering the abducted victims and apprehending the culprits.

Hundeyin urged the public and media to rely on official police updates, warning that unverified reports could compromise ongoing operations.

“We appeal to the public and media to rely on official channels for verified information. Speculation and sensational reporting can jeopardise operations and increase public anxiety,” he said.
