“FG Sets Date to Arraign Ozekhome Over Alleged London Property Scam”
Barring any last-minute changes, the Federal Government is set to arraign Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Mike Ozekhome, before the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Maitama, Abuja, on Monday, January 26, 2026, over alleged fraud linked to a property in London, United Kingdom.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
A hearing notice obtained by The PUNCH on Wednesday stated that the arraignment will hold in Courtroom 4 of the court.
Ozekhome is listed as the sole defendant, with the Federal Republic of Nigeria named as the plaintiff. The prosecution will be handled by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), led by Osuobeni Akponimisingha, Head of the Commission’s High-Profile Prosecution Department.
The notice specifies that the matter “will be transferred from the general cause list to the hearing paper for Monday, the 26th day of January, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.” It also states that any party seeking an adjournment must apply promptly and provide supporting evidence, while those intending to summon witnesses must give reasonable notice.
Ozekhome faces a three-count charge filed by the ICPC on January 16.
-
Count One: Allegedly, in August 2021, in London, the SAN directly received a property at House 79, Randall Avenue, London NW2 7SX, purportedly given by one Mr. Shani Tali, knowing the act was illegal. This offence is said to contravene Section 13 and is punishable under Section 24 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.
-
Count Two: Ozekhome is accused of creating a false Nigerian passport in August 2021 in the name of Mr. Shani Tali (Passport No. A07535463) to support a fraudulent claim of ownership of the London property. This is alleged to violate Section 363 and is punishable under Section 364 of the Penal Code, Laws of the FCT, Abuja.
-
Count Three: He is further accused of dishonestly using the false passport to substantiate the ownership claim, knowing the document was forged, contrary to Section 366 and punishable under Section 364 of the Penal Code.
The case follows a petition submitted to the ICPC by Mr. Olanrewaju Suraj, head of the Human and Environmental Development Agenda. The petition reportedly referenced a British court judgment accusing Ozekhome and others of conspiring with corrupt Nigerian officials to procure fake national identity documents in order to fraudulently claim ownership of a North London property.
The ICPC said it launched investigations following the London property tribunal’s findings, which formed part of the basis for the charges now pending before the FCT High Court.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
