Afenifere Picks Preferred Candidate For Ekiti 2026 Governorship Race.

Published

The Ekiti State chapter of Afenifere has refuted reports claiming the Yoruba socio-political group has endorsed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Dare Bejide, ahead of the June 2026 election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The organisation described the reports as false and deceptive, stressing that it has neither endorsed Bejide nor has any affiliation with the ADC.

In a statement released on Thursday by its Publicity Secretary, Biodun Akin-Fasae, the Ekiti Afenifere leadership said those parading themselves as having endorsed the ADC candidate are impostors with no recognition from the group.

The statement, jointly signed by the group’s leader, Elder Jonathan Yemi Alade, and its Secretary, Chief Ronke Okusanya, disowned the individuals, insisting they lack the authority to speak or act on behalf of Afenifere in the state.

“Individuals parading themselves as leaders and members of Afenifere are not known to the Ekiti chapter and have no authority to act or speak on behalf of the group,” the organisation said.

Afenifere further clarified that the group allegedly led by Olayemi Olajuyinmi does not exist in its official records and has no connection whatsoever with Afenifere in Ekiti State.

It accused the individuals of attempting to exploit the name, legacy and reputation of Afenifere for personal and political advantage.

The group urged the public to ignore any statements attributed to the alleged group, describing them as deliberate efforts to mislead voters.

Restating its political position, the Ekiti Afenifere chapter affirmed its unwavering support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and openly backed the re-election of Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

According to the group, the governor deserves a second term based on his performance and commitment to the development of the state.

Afenifere emphasised that it has no ties with the ADC or any other political party outside the APC, insisting that claims to the contrary are false and intended to cause confusion.

The group therefore called on the public to remain alert and not fall for what it described as the antics of political opportunists seeking to stir unnecessary tension ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
