“APC’s ‘No Automatic Ticket’ Rule Is Aimed At Fubara – Ikila”.
Anthony Ikila, Director of the Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies, has suggested that the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s “no automatic ticket” policy for incumbent officeholders could be aimed at Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on Wednesday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Ikila said the policy may be designed to manage internal party dynamics, especially where influential political figures are involved.
He noted that Fubara’s political position is delicate, pointing out that the governor faces competition from a serving minister who is both a key party figure and a power broker. According to Ikila, the no automatic ticket rule could be part of broader strategies by the APC leadership to balance loyalty, control dissent, and manage rival factions within the party.
However, Ikila warned that regardless of its intent, the policy could undermine internal democracy. He stated:
“He might be targeted. It’s also targeted at others, so they can deny favoritism. But in any case, it’s problematic.
Fubara has a strong opponent—a serving minister, a significant party leader, and a figure difficult to ignore. On one hand, they want to maintain loyalty; on the other, they need to tolerate opposition.
The APC leadership, including the President, may be forced to play such games to balance these interests.”
