Speaking in an interview with Arise Television, Salihu praised the political experience and track record of both leaders, highlighting their capacity to strengthen the opposition.
He said, “With Atiku Abubakar’s experience, integrity, and leadership capacity, and Peter Obi’s zeal, energy, and sincerity of purpose, you have two leaders who can make a real difference. Nigerians should work to encourage both of them, along with other politicians in the party, to focus on building a stronger opposition. Before the coalition, these leaders had already agreed to collaborate.”
Meanwhile, there is growing concern within the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Presidency over the possibility of former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso joining forces with Atiku and Obi ahead of 2027.
Reports suggest the unease stems from renewed talks among opposition figures seeking to form a broad coalition capable of challenging President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Following the 2023 elections, Atiku and Obi merged their political structures into the ADC as part of a strategic alliance. Influential figures both within and outside the party are reportedly pressuring Kwankwaso to join the Atiku-Obi bloc to present a united opposition front.

Despite dismissing the allegations as unsubstantiated and asserting he had no personal interest in the matter, Justice Aluko chose to withdraw from the case to remove any perception of bias.
