FG Threatens To Take Over 108km Of Ibadan-Ilesha Road Over Contractor Lapses.
According to Nivo News, the Federal Government has warned that it may take over more than half of the Ibadan–Ilesha expressway rehabilitation and expansion contract if the appointed contractor fails to meet required standards. The caution came from the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, during an inspection of the ongoing project on Wednesday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
While acknowledging progress by the contractor, CBC, Umahi stressed that performance would be closely monitored. He warned that failure to carry out urgent palliative works on damaged portions of the road would force the government to assume control of 108 kilometres, equivalent to one full carriageway.
The minister directed the contractor to deploy additional manpower and equipment immediately, insisting that five full gangs commence concrete work, with the first gang covering chainage zero to chainage 25 on both sides of the road, and the remaining gangs addressing other critical sections. He emphasised that earthworks not approved by the Federal Government would not be funded, noting that unnecessary removal and replacement of laterite should be avoided because the road design already accounts for inner and outer shoulders.
Despite the strict instructions, Umahi commended the contractor for addressing flood-affected sections and assured road users that urgent palliative works would be funded using government counterpart funds. The Ibadan-Ilesha expressway, a key arterial route linking the South-West to parts of the South-East, has been in a state of prolonged deterioration, causing significant inconvenience to motorists and residents along the corridor.
