Nigerian Army Rescues 18 Passengers From Sea Pirates Off Cameroon Coast.
According to Nivo News, the Nigerian Army has successfully rescued 18 passengers, including two infants, who were abducted by suspected sea pirates off the coast of Cameroon. A source at the Army Headquarters explained that the pirates, operating two speedboats and a wooden vessel, were pursued by troops, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. During the confrontation, one of the pirate speedboats, powered by a 15-horsepower engine, capsized, forcing the assailants to abandon their captives and flee into nearby creeks.
“All victims were rescued unharmed, and troops continue to patrol the waterways to prevent further criminal activities,” the source said, noting that five rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition and four rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition were fired during the operation.
The source reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s ongoing commitment to maintaining security and conducting operations across all theatres nationwide to combat criminal activities and safeguard citizens.
