CAF Opens Disciplinary Probe After Post-Match Clash Between Nigeria And Algeria.
According to Nivo News, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched a disciplinary investigation following a post-match altercation between players after the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter-final clash between Nigeria and Algeria. The governing body described the behaviour as potentially unacceptable and confirmed that the matter has been formally referred to its disciplinary board for review.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
CAF stated that appropriate sanctions would be applied if any individual is found guilty of misconduct. The incident occurred at the conclusion of Saturday’s match in Marrakesh, which saw Nigeria secure a 2-0 victory over Algeria, with goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams ensuring the Super Eagles’ advancement to the semi-finals.
The victory, however, was overshadowed by heated exchanges on the pitch as players from both sides clashed, raising concerns about sportsmanship and conduct. Disciplinary outcomes could impact Nigeria’s preparations for their upcoming semi-final against host nation Morocco, scheduled for Wednesday.
CAF also revealed that it is investigating Friday’s quarter-final between Morocco and Cameroon, a match marked by controversy over refereeing decisions. Cameroon officials expressed dissatisfaction after a penalty appeal involving Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo was denied, intensifying debates over officiating standards and player discipline at the tournament. The disciplinary actions underscore CAF’s commitment to maintaining order and fairness as AFCON progresses into its critical stages.
