The cleric had earlier claimed that the veteran singer would die on January 10, 2026, adding that he had pleaded with God on Osupa’s behalf and advised him to purchase a large ram for prayers.

Reacting during a live performance on Sunday, January 11, 2026, Saheed Osupa dismissed the prophecy and issued a stern warning to those wishing him harm. The Fuji icon declared that anyone praying for his death would die in his place, cautioning both known and unknown enemies to desist from such utterances.

“Fake Alfa and prophet, please don’t wish me dead. Anyone who wishes me dead will die in my place. Close enemies, secret enemies, enemies of my career and even those around me should stop wishing me death, or they will go before me,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Fuji legend recently expressed gratitude to Grammy Award-winning singer Burna Boy for describing him as the greatest musician of all time. Burna Boy had revealed during a conversation with tennis legend Roger Federer that most of his musical greats are Fuji artistes, including Saheed Osupa.

Responding via his account, Osupa described the recognition as a monumental moment that celebrates the soul and enduring influence of Fuji music on a global stage. He noted that the acknowledgement not only honors his personal journey but also highlights the rich cultural heritage of Fuji music across generations, adding that he looks forward to attending one of Burna Boy’s future concerts.

The state Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, disclosed that the suspect and the deceased initially connected online and developed a friendship after communicating for several months.

According to Daaor, Samuel later invited the woman to his residence in the Ahor area of Benin City, where he allegedly stabbed her to death with a knife.

The police commissioner stated that the suspect had been taken into custody and would be charged in court after investigations were concluded.

However, Samuel has offered a different account of the incident, claiming that the woman was injured during a struggle over a knife following an argument between them.

Speaking in an interview, the 21-year-old insisted that he did not intend to kill her.

“I didn’t mean to kill her, but she got injured in the process of struggling with her for the knife during an argument,” he said.

The suspect explained that he had met the woman on social media and that their friendship developed over several months of online conversations before she decided to visit him.

He said they were initially having a discussion at his residence, but the conversation eventually escalated into an argument.

“On the day she came to my house, we were discussing, but the discussion snowballed into an argument. In the process, she picked up a knife and intended to stab me,” he claimed.

Samuel further alleged that the woman sustained an injury to her neck while they were struggling over the knife.

He maintained that he attempted to save her after she was injured but was unable to prevent her death.

“I didn’t mean to kill her. I tried to save her after she was injured, but she died,” he said.

The police are expected to conclude their investigation before proceeding with the case in court.
