Algeria enters the game on the back of four successive wins at AFCON 2025, having narrowly overcome DR Congo in extra time during the round of 16. The Greens have enjoyed strong form, winning 11 of their last 14 internationals, but history highlights a potential stumbling block, as Algeria has been eliminated in the quarter-finals in four of their last six knockout appearances.
Nigeria, meanwhile, advanced with a convincing 4-0 victory over Mozambique and tops the tournament scoring chart with 12 goals from four matches. Despite their attacking strength, the Super Eagles have not won an AFCON quarter-final by more than a single goal since 1994, suggesting a closely contested encounter. Algeria has claimed victory in the last three meetings against Nigeria, all by one-goal margins, including a 2-1 friendly win in September 2022.
For the quarter-final, Mohamed Amoura leads Algeria’s attack, known for scoring in high-scoring matches, while Nigeria relies on the prolific Ademola Lookman, who has netted in three of the team’s four tournament games, including the round-of-16 win over Mozambique.
Confirmed Starting Line-ups
Algeria (4-4-2): Anthony Mandrea (GK); Rayan Aït-Nouri, Ramy Bensebaini, Aïssa Mandi, Raïs Belghali; Riyad Mahrez (captain), Hicham Boudaoui, Ramiz Zerrouki, Farès Chaïbi; Ibrahim Maza, Mohamed Amoura.
Nigeria (4-3-1-2): Stanley Nwabali (GK); Bright Osayi-Samuel, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, Bruno Onyemaechi; Frank Onyeka, Wilfred Ndidi (captain), Alex Iwobi; Ademola Lookman; Victor Osimhen, Akor Adams.
