‘Watch Where They Go’ — Wike Hints At Preferred Successor In Rivers.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has advised his supporters to closely observe the political movements of key leaders within both the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party in order to identify his preferred candidate for the 2027 Rivers State governorship election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, Wike made the remarks on Wednesday while addressing supporters of both parties during a gathering in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.
While urging his followers to rally behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, the minister hinted that his anointed candidate for the state would become evident through the actions and alignments of party chairmen and loyal political figures at the grassroots level.
Wike encouraged supporters to pay attention to the direction taken by their local government chairmen, as well as the state leadership of the APC and PDP, insisting that their collective movement would reveal where his political structure is headed ahead of the 2027 polls.
The minister’s comments come against the backdrop of his earlier vow to block the re-election of his estranged political protégé, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, whose relationship with Wike has deteriorated amid the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Meanwhile, a PDP chieftain, Emmanuel Ogidi, has predicted that Wike’s alliance with the APC may soon unravel, suggesting that the ruling party could become the next target of the minister’s political battles.
Speaking during a television interview on Wednesday, Ogidi argued that while the APC initially leveraged Wike’s influence to weaken the PDP, the political dynamics have begun to shift, warning that tensions between Wike and elements within the APC are likely to intensify.
He added that the ruling party is now experiencing the same political pressure tactics it once benefited from, as the power struggle continues to reshape Rivers State politics.

COMMANDING PEACE: Inside The APC’s Desperate Strategy To Stop The Candidates’ List Meltdown!.
In response to widespread internal discontent regarding its candidates’ list, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly granted state governors the authority to oversee the distribution and completion of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination forms. Party National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka noted that the APC has received over 700 petitions related to the disputed primaries. Morka emphasized that the party’s current focus is ensuring all candidates finish their documentation ahead of the INEC deadline on July 11, noting that the public release of the final candidate list is not the immediate priority.
To address the fallout from the primaries, APC governors held an emergency meeting at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, presided over by Progressive Governors’ Forum Chairman, Senator Hope Uzodinma, with plans to consult the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda. This move aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s reported commitment to allowing governors significant influence over candidate selection within their respective states.
Several state-level developments have emerged from this process:
-
Gombe: Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has handed INEC nomination forms to the party’s governorship candidate, Dr. Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna, as well as National Assembly candidates.
-
Lagos: Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has endorsed his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, as his successor.
-
Nasarawa: Governor Abdullahi Sule has endorsed Senator Ahmed Aliyu-Wadada, a choice that has faced opposition from some party members.
-
Borno: Following reconciliation efforts headed by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Governor Babagana Zulum’s preferred choice, Mustapha Gubio, was established as the consensus candidate.
Additionally, it is noted that eight APC governors are set to conclude their second terms and depart office by May 29, 2027.
